Linking in with the Straw Patch Project in Ilfracombe for nature-based wellbeing activities

Recovery Practitioners in Northern Devon have recently linked in with the Straw Patch Project, a community interest company based near Ilfracombe which uses nature-based activities to promote mental and physical wellbeing. Our staff made contact in the summer and are now signposting clients from various referral sources to the amazing local project.

The Straw Patch Project focuses on community and harmony with nature. Run by a 2-person team of Sarah and Alex, the project is based at Strawfields, a smallholding which hosts a number of holiday cottages, glamping huts and tent pitches. Strawfields is owned by Alex and her husband Nick, while Sarah manages the Straw Patch gardens and sessions.

Phil, one of our Recovery Practitioners, reflected on everything on offer at the project:

Clay pottery, natural dyes, freshly pressed fruit juices, a working kitchen (with plenty of cake) and a beautiful setting — alpacas, ponies, pigs, goats. Not to mention those welcoming hardy folk who run the various projects offered year-round. The Straw Patch Project truly is an example of what can be achieved through embracing nature and community.
